The Last Hug is the first in a planned series of photographic works rooted in true stories from queer life, grief, and survival. The next project follows a gay couple who lost their home in the Alta Dena fires. The only things they saved were charred personal artifacts, a fireproof box of photos, and each other. That series will incorporate recovered physical items, projections of news footage, and images of the burned remains of their home — juxtaposed against tender, intimate new portraits taken in the aftermath.
Other planned works include:
- A generational portrait of queer chosen family in the face of medical crisis
- A speculative story of memory loss and erotic hallucination in late-stage dementia
- A project inviting surviving caregivers and queer elders to co-create staged memories of people they’ve lost
Each piece in the series is part witness, part conjuring. This is documentary by way of dream.
